Lily shook her head. “Haven’t really had the time to check any of them out. Have to catch up on all the work I’m behind on. Plus the fact that I know like no one at school doesn’t help.”
She watched as the guys sat down and gave Melody a smile after she noticed them looking back at her and Melody. She knew Melody had a boyfriend and she seemed really happy so that made her happy. She would never admit it but she was a secret romantic. Lily had had to leave behind her best guy friend in Miami and she and him had been very close to starting a relationship. So she was on the lookout for a distraction. Lily wasn’t looking for a replacement as no one would replace him. But she knew she needed to move on. If they were meant to be they would end up together one day. For now she was content to check out the guys in LA.
“Oh, honey,” Melody said with a smile. “There is always time for boys.” And to Melody, there really always was. Before her current relationship status she had a bad rep about too many guys too often, but it was never something that phased her. People talked and they were going to no matter what. To a girl that liked to have fun and didn’t like to be tied down, all it ever was going to be was talk. Words can hurt, but she always chose not to let them. Slut, whore, and skank were how other people perceived her and one of the great things about Melody was that she only cared how she perceived herself.
She glanced over at the boys who were starting to throw a frisbee back and forth while casually looking the girls’ way every now and then and looked back at her friend with a smile. “What would you say to maybe some friendly talk with boys? You know, just a little warm-up.” She smiled and bit her lip excitedly.
Lily gave Daisy a pat to which Daily rewarded her with a wag of the tail. “Nice to meet you Daisy” Lily said with a smile to the dog. She liked animals. Dogs in particular though she had never had the chance to own one herself.
It had not taken long for Lily to work out that Melody was probably one of the most popular girls around. She had seen how some of the others at the party had seemed to hang on her every word. Lily was not trying to her friend because of that she just thought Melody seemed nice and it would be good to have someone to talk to around here other than her housekeeper.
She thought for a moment before she answered Melody’s question. “Just went for a surf. Now am working on my tan and also checking out boys as they go by.” She shrugged and then grinned. “It’s nice to have some new guys to look at.”
Melody watched a group of guys pass that she wouldn’t have thought twice about flirting with when she was in high school. Hell, if she was single at the moment she wouldn’t have thought twice about it. They were tall and lean and the typical California beach bod type. She tilted her head as they stopped a little down from the girls and set up their spot. Directing her attention back to her friend she smiled, “It’s nice to look, but it’s even nicer to talk,” she said. She buried her feet in the sand and leaned back onto her elbows. “What about at school? Any studs catch your eyes?”
